I wanted to test a new voice model I found in Ben’s bites newsletter.
It’s called Ultravox AI, and it’s supposed to communicate just like humans do.
I tried it out to see how good it really is. There’s a demo on their website you can try too.
I made a call, and an AI assistant answered.
She guided me through the process and updated my profile in real time as we talked.
You can see this in the video below.
However, it has some flaws.
The listening window is quite short, so if you pause for a second or two, the AI cuts you off.
It also struggles with spelling words correctly.
I tested other languages besides English.
For example, Slovenian works very poorly with this model.
In contrast, OpenAI’s real-time API handles Slovenian language much better.
Ultravox AI tends to repeat itself a lot, but its English communication is quite good.
The voice flow and emotions are impressive.
Overall, it’s an okay tool for English but not very useful for other languages yet.
Feel free to give it a try and watch my conversation with Ultravox AI below.
