2022 World cup in Qatar is by far the most unethical, immoral and anti-football in the history of world cup tournaments. Still, the games were nice, the surprises overwhelming, and some impressive technology was presented.
Also, debates around technology in (or and) modern football are even older, and are being discussed daily for years if not decades. This next example is less of a football as a game affected (or is it?), but more fans, and game statistics influenced type of technology.
FIFA+ app has a feature called FIFA+ Stadium Experience and it allows fans at the World Cup to use their mobile devices to scan the field and view the matches in augmented reality. This is a lesser-known function of the app.
But then again, is the constant availability of players’ (enormous amount of) data something that we really need and should strive towards?
